Interview with Rackettes Ladies League player, Laila Arabi

1. Who is your favorite professional player?

Male: Federer – his consistence of winning many grand slams for an extended time with the best skills and less errors.

Female: Serena Williams, for her strong personality, role modeling, powerful style with her forehand and backhand.

2.Who is your favourite RA coach?

I played with George, Simon and Sam – all very good coaches with different styles of teaching which you can learn and add to your skills of playing.

3. Why do you love tennis?

I have loved this game since I was a young girl, I just feel happy when I am on the court and holding a racquet.

4.  How did you get into tennis?

Didn’t have a chance to play properly until I went to university, then I started hitting balls from time to time.

5. How long have you been playing tennis?

I started to play games and get professional trainers around 5 to 6 years ago.

6. Name three things you like about Rackets Academy.

Rackets academy is a happy friendly environment with great courts and coaches in my neighborhood which make it the best place for me and be part of it.

Ladies league Player of the Week

Congratulations to Meriem Bestiani who is our Ladies League Player of the Week, winning a brunch for two at The Void, Studio City. Meriem was nominated by her coach, Kris for winning her league match after being 1-5 (down in first) and 1-4 (down in second).

Coach Kris Tip of the Week: Get in Position

It doesn’t matter if you can hit a ball harder than the Incredible Hulk – if you can’t get to the ball fast enough and get your feet properly set – you’ll never be able to take a proper swing.  Before you can hit your favorite shot you’ve got to be able get in position. In fact, the number one cause of missed shots in tennis is when a player is out of position.  This is where footwork can really save you.  Having exceptional footwork can get you in position to hit your best stroke and take your game to the next level.

Etiquette- Returning Missed Serves

If your opponent misses their serve by a large margin, don’t return it and take practice swings at it. Instead, block the ball to the side or the back of the court. It’s annoying if you’re the server, plus they may have to chase the return you hit down to clear their side of the court before their second serve, which can throw their rhythm off.

Results from Ladies league week 4

Another super week on the courts.  All teams were in action this week giving it their all and producing some wonderful tennis. Quite a few of our teams reported that they were involved in long rallies, getting the adrenaline pumping and their hearts racing.
