What’s New?

We are proud to announce that we received our Tennis Emirates Affiliation certificate yesterday! This certificate recognises us as a fully certified tennis academy within the laws of the UAE, and one of the few companies to be recognised by the tennis federation.

Rule of the Week: ‘Let’ called when a ball rolls on your court

Did you know, that when a ball from another court enters the playing area, any player on the court affected may call a ‘let’ as soon as the player becomes aware of the ball. A player loses the right to call a ‘let’ if the player unreasonably delays in making the call…

Coach Mariano’s Tip of the Week: Fake Poaching in Doubles

“Fake poaching occurs when you pretend that you’re going to poach by making a move that looks like you’re about to poach, but then you don’t. This is how you do it:

  1. Tell your partner The worst thing that can happen is that your partner does not know you’re faking and  he/she switches sides thinking you’re also switching, and then no one is there to take the ball when it’s returned.
  2. Take a good first step; make sure you get your opponent’s attention and give them the message that you may poach by taking a strong, obvious, loud first step.
  3. Push back to your position with the foot you’ve used to take your strong first step, push off and get yourself back into position at the net. You want to be in a ready position for whatever happens next.
  4. Play out the point

Be prepared for whatever return comes back. If you’ve been effective, you can expect it to be weak and you should be ready to possibly put it away.

I really hope you’ll give this tactic a try in your next doubles match. Good luck!”
