Rule of the Week

If you miss the point of contact with the ball on the serve and finish the follow through motion of the shot, It is then counted as a fault.

Coach Kirk’s Tip of the Week: Returning to tennis after a break

“Everyone has experienced that feeling of being out of touch in terms of their game. This could be down to injury, needing to take a break from the sport or, as we have all recently experienced, due to lockdown. This is a concern for many, however players often get excited to step back on court expecting to perform the same level as before, not knowing that their feel for the game has dropped….

It is important for everyone to know, that when returning back on court after not playing for a while, a lot more patience and practice may be required to get back to that level… this is okay! Undergoing the basic fundamentals in tennis and taking it slowly to come back will help. Frequently, players tend not to recognise their mistakes, such as getting that follow through on their forehand, or even preparing your racket and taking it back a little earlier before the point of contact with the ball. These small corrections on your shot would lead to a much different result. Once you’re aware of your mistakes and are able to fix them, you should start seeing yourself gaining more confidence in your game.

So do not be too concerned by taking it slow and trying to rebuild on your game as it’s part of the process of improving. Good luck!“
