Rule of the Week: Foot Fault

The server must stand behind the baseline, between the centre mark and the side line.

A “foot fault” is called if any of the following happens before the ball is hit:

  • The feet touch the ground inside the baseline
  • The feet touch the wrong side of the centre mark OR
  • The feet touch the wrong side of the imaginary extension of  the side line.

A foot fault is the same as a fault on a serve so the player is given the chance of a second serve.

Coach Kris’ Tip of the Week: Changing direction during the rally

“Making smart choices during a competition is just as important as good execution. This includes knowing when to change direction. Some players change direction without any reason to do so and put themselves in a poor position to return their opponents ball. The general rule of thumb is to only change direction when a ball is “inside” or weak to the outside. Don’t change direction on a good quality “outside ball”, or those that cross your body. Good luck!”
