Coach Sarah’s Tip of the Week: Focus Back on the Basics

“Sometimes in a rally, open court practice or a match game, players tend to focus on hitting hard, winning the point and put less focus on the basics and the fundamentals of a stroke, such as the split step, footwork, unit turn and forward balance.

It is essential to know that step 1 of any shot is reaching and positioning well while step 2 is hitting well. Without a good reach and position, step 2 would not have a solid foundation to happen.

So work on having a more consistent and longer rally, a game with less unforced errors and focus on the basics; split step for a faster take off, footwork to reach and position well and the unit turn for getting the upmost power from your body rotation. Good luck!”

Have a great week!
