Mrs Miyagi’s Player of the Week
Congratulations to Xiomary Montoya from Las Chicaswho is our Mrs Miyagi’s Ladies League Player of the Week. Xiomary was voted by her coach, Jordi, for her dedication and fight at every point during her match last week . Xiomary wins a brunch for two at Mrs Miyagi’s Restaurant in Studio City. Well done Xiomary!
New Indoor Cardio Tennis
We are delighted to announce that we are now running indoor Cardio Tennis in the Madinat Arena on Tuesday’s 7-8pm. Price is 70 DHS per class and booking to be made through our mobile app. Places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment!
Men’s Indoor Box League – Sign Up TODAY!
Calling all social and competitive male players to take part in our indoor Rackets Academy Box League, starting this month. We are looking for men of all levels of play to compete in the league. Matches will take place on Tuesday and Saturday evenings, 9-11pm. Rounds will be played over the 2 evenings.
There will be 6 teams in each box playing round robin matches over a set number of days and weeks, with winning teams moving up and the losing teams moving down. Prizes will be awarded throughout the tournament.
Once we have confirmed numbers and teams we can start putting the boxes together and handing out times and dates accordingly. The cost will be 100 DHS per match per person. New balls will also be provided.
This is open to all men, including non-Rackets Academy members, so if you have a friend who wants to take part in the league and enjoy the fun, get them to sign up too! Find yourself a partner and sign yourselves up by WhatsApp’ing us on 052 992 8595 TODAY!
Junior Indoor Programme
We are excited to offer our fully air-conditioned indoor mini tennis courses throughout the week at our Madinat Arena venue. With 3 tennis courts, 2 padel courts, plus a mini-red and an orange court, we have a programme for kids of all ages:
- Mini Red – 4-8 years
- Orange – 8-9 years
- Green – 10-11 years
Our classes run Monday through to Thursday: Red – 4pm, Orange – 5pm, Green – 6pm and Friday and Saturday: Red – 9am, Orange – 10am, Green – 11am.
Featuring shorter courts, lower nets, smaller rackets and soft, low-bouncing balls, Mini Tennis provides the perfect introduction to tennis for young children. There are three stages of Mini Tennis; Red, Orange and Green – each with their own court size and ball-type. This tailored approach enables players to develop vital skills and techniques at an early age, Rackets academy have produced elite performance players for 8 years using this system. Interview with Coach Jordan
This week’s interview is with Rackets Academy Coach, Jordan Bull.
1. Who is your favourite professional player?
Roger Federer & Camilla Giorgi.
2. Why do you love tennis?
Because it’s a great social sport for anyone to enjoy and it’s given me opportunities to travel the world whilst playing tournaments and to live in Dubai.
3. How did you get into tennis?
My mum used to take lessons (not very well ?) and my brother and I joined in once and we were fairly good at it so it just went from there.
4. When did you start playing tennis?
Probably from around 6/7 years old.
5. List 3 things you like about Rackets Academy
- The coaching team are great to work with.
- Getting moaned at by Coach Sarah on an hourly basis.
- …and, of course, my Bulldogs!
Rule of the Week: Respect the rhythm of the server
Usually you have up to 20 seconds in between the points. However, out of respect to your opponent, if the server is a bit faster than those 20 seconds, you should be ready to return when your opponent is preparing to serve.
Coach Moro’s Tip of the Week: Stay Low
“Make sure you always stay low to the ground during your shot. By having a wider base than your shoulders it will be easier to make a good lunge towards your shot. That will give you a good combo of power and control on your shots…Good luck!“
