Interview with Coach Kirk

This week’s interview is with Rackets Academy Coach, Kirk Rebuyas.

1. Who is your favourite professional player?

My favourite player would have to be Roger Federer as he showcases great sportsmanship in the sport.

2. Why do you love tennis?

Tennis has taught me a lot over the years, but one thing that has kept me at the sport is because it’s a good way to sweat and burn some calories and we get to enjoy playing the sport despite what age we are in.

3. How did you get into tennis?

It was because of my dad i started playing tennis. He would take me out to the courts when he would play with his friends and when he bought me my first racket made out of plastic i just started swinging.

4. When did you start playing tennis?

I started playing at the age of 5 years old

5. List 3 things you like about Rackets Academy

  1. The working environment and the people around.
  2. We have a good, strong team at Rackets Academy.
  3. Being part of the Elite performance programme, I enjoy being challenged by working and developing our player’s game to perform to their best potential to compete.

Rule of the Week

If any part of a ball touches a line, the ball is good. A ball 99% out is still 100% good. A player shall not call a ball out unless the player clearly sees space between where the ball hits and a line.

Coach Luca’s  Tip of the Week: Splitting the Court into Zones

“If we split the court into 4 zones you can highlight what you should be doing to win your matches through smart consistent play!

Red zone – Understand that you are in a defensive positive behind the baseline so you should look to play with height and depth .

Orange zone- Understand that you are in a neutral position so you should try to identify opportunities to put yourself in an offensive position.

Yellow zone-  Understand that you are in an offensive position so look to take initiative to take TIME away from your opponent while looking for space.

Green zone- understand that your goal is to finish the point when you close out the net..…Good luck!“
