Player Interview with Wendy Allcorn

This week’s interview is with the lovely Ladies League player, Wendy Allcorn.

1. Who is your favourite professional player?

My favourite player has to be Gael Monfils for his dramatics and Serena  Williams for the catsuits.

2. Who is your favourite Rackets Academy Coach?

My favourite Coach has to be Lito, as he always says ‘Good Job’ and smiles!

3. Why do you love tennis?

Obviously because of the awesome ladies on my team ❤️ as well as the elation of winning a smack down volley but then on the next shot realising I’ve been done down the line!

4. How did you get into tennis?

Both my boys started playing with George, who has a way of convincing all the sideline mums they should give it a go. A few lessons in and we were all cancelling Yoga and Pilates to spend more time on the courts 🙂

5. How long have you been playing tennis for?

6 years

6. List 3 things you like about Rackets Academy

  1. The club has grown from a one man band to one of the biggest academy’s in Dubai with a diverse mix of coaches and players, but I always feel welcome walking onto any of the courts like it’s a local family club
  2. The huge mix of players means I’ve now got a lot of tennis friends from every continent
  3. The coaches are all fair game in being dressed-up and game for banter

Rule of the Week: Foot Fault

The server must stand behind the baseline, between the centre mark and the sideline.

A “foot fault” is called if any of the following happens before the ball is struck:

– The feet touch the ground inside the baseline

– The feet touch the wrong side of the centre mark OR

– The feet touch the wrong side of the imaginary extension of the sideline

A foot fault is the same as a fault on a serve so the player is given the chance of a second serve.

Coach Kris’ Tip of the Week: Tennis Tactic

“The best tennis strategies are similar to those of any sport: win more points and lose fewer points. But what tennis tactics support is a tennis strategy of winning more points. Use the knowledge you’ve gained by observing your opponent. For instance, you’ve observed which is your opponent’s weaker side. Now attack this weaker side with serves, returns and ground strokes. Force your opponent to use this weaker side and play faster shots to that side, giving your opponent less time to react. Use variation of height, spin and speed to disrupt your opponent’s timing.…Good luck!“
