What’s New?

We are proud to announce our partnership with optimalTHERAPY. Reiss, their Sports Therapist, gave a talk to parents who have kids on our Elite programme, last week. The session was really informative and parents learnt about preventing sports injury and what Optimal Fitness will be offering to those on the programme.  As of Sunday next week, Reiss will be working closely with our coaches and elite and ladies league players at the Rackets Academy sessions, offering a drop in clinic every Sunday between 6pm and 7pm for court side consultations for the players.

Reiss is an injury prevention expert with 10 years of hands on therapy experience and will be a great addition to the team for ensuring the health and fitness of our members here at Rackets Academy. All members of Rackets Academy will be getting a members discount on all optimalTHERAPY services including Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy, Osteopathy and more. For further enquiries, please contact Optimal on 04 441 9687 or email therapy@optimalfitness.ae. For more information, please visit https://www.optimaltherapy.ae.

Rule of the Week: Foot Fault

A server must stand behind the baseline, between the centre mark and the sideline. When a foot touches the wrong side of the imaginary extension of the sideline, a foot fault is called regardless of if the serve is in or out. The player then takes a second serve.

Coach Sam’s Tip of the Week: Double Strategy

“The double back strategy is for defensive purposes, and should only be used if you and your partner prefer to play it safe. Most of the time, it is used when the opposing team are either doubled up or in an aggressive one up, one back position. The main strategy with this positioning is to return the opponent’s powerful shots until an opportunity arises to punish them (typically with a lob or a defensive shot). Staying at the baseline allows for powerful shots as well as eliminating the chance of passing shots. The main disadvantages of this tennis doubles strategy are drop shots, and the fact that your team provides no net pressure. That’s why it’s also important to change your strategy during a match in order to mix things up and stand a good chance of winning the point or game. Good luck!”
