Interview with Coach Luca

This week’s interview is with Rackets Academy Coach, Gianluca Cocco.

1. Who is your favourite professional player?

Andre Agassi

2. Why do you love tennis?

I love tennis because from a young age I watched my family play. When I took it up, I realized how fun and mentally stimulating it can be. There are so many factors that can influence a match and even when I wasn’t at my best I thrived of finding a way to win! It also allowed me to see a lot the world from such a young age when I was competing.

3. How did you get into tennis?

My family all played a little bit but mainly my eldest sister used to compete and one day they decided to try me out at the club across from my home. From then I didn’t stop.

4. When did you start playing tennis?

I started playing when I was 8 years old at a club across the road from my home.

5. List 3 things you like about Rackets Academy

  1. The coaching team
  2. The opportunity to coach at some of the best courts in Dubai
  3. The members

Rule of the Week: Tennis Rule for a beginner

You may notice that there are two sets of sidelines : one set for doubles and one set for singles. If you are playing singles the ball must land within the singles court which is outlined by the singles sideline and baseline. If you are playing doubles you would use the doubles sideline and baseline to mark where the ball should land.

Coach Sam’s Tip of the Week: Avoiding Tilt

“Forget about what has gone on before, particularly if you have lost the previous point, and concentrate on the point you are currently playing. Getting angry and frustrated doesn’t help you play better, doing so can often lead to someone becoming so angry that they can fail altogether, this is referred to as ‘tilt’, and it is a common term known in many sports where emotion overrides a cool, calm and collected approach..…Good luck“
